Across Borders Difficult Neighborhoods is a book cover I designed the for ECU. It was important to have a serious, information-centric design sensibility to honor the tone and themes of the book.
initial designs
Given the books title, I wanted to design a solution that physically represented an aspect of the books title and hinted towards its themes. Early explorations were about typographical refinement and color palette choices, although from the beginning, a minimalist approach was the goal.

Ultimately, I decided that my early conceptions were reinforcing the kind of borders that the book argued were problematic via my design solutions, so I landed on a path that hinted at borders without giving the wrong message.
